Katayef and Kittens

When getting thrown into a dungeon together is the only way to steal a weekend with your busy royal lover, Ashar will take what he can get. Fortunately the dungeon is more of a cat cafe…

Asharan bir Chameli certainly didn’t set out to get the God-Emperor’s brother collared, belled, and thrown into the Archmage’s guest-cage. But as long as they’re there, he’s not going to complain.

It’s the most delightful dungeon they’ve ever seen, with enchanted sunbeams and singing birds and a fishpond… not to mention the magic-cancelling collars. Since his Highness Faraj gets himself into so much trouble, the Archmage’s catfolk guardians think this stray prince needs a more conscientious and sensible keeper, such as a cat. After all, humans collar and bell stray housecats; surely turnabout is fair play.

Honestly, this cozy little kidnapping would be just the vacation the two of them needed, with no fates of the world on his Highness’ shoulders and no political quagmires to wade through. It’s just that they didn’t really get to warn anybody.

So now their greatest worry is which of their friends is going to bash holes in the walls trying to rescue them first… whether or not they entirely want to be rescued.

His Highness’ Chamberlain and his witchy Archivist already get on like a house on fire: screaming, explosions, mass destruction. Not to mention whatever unknown sorcery the Archmage is brewing up. Or the maw of the Dark that has eaten several priests.

…Can’t they just stay in the Archmage’s dungeon for a while, and let the rest of the Empire solve its own problems?

Katayef and Kittens is the second book in a cozy Middle Eastern M/M fantasy series with a mature romantic relationship, even more kittens, and a respite for people who need to unplug, relax, and let the world burn on without them for a while.

I hope to have Katayef and Kittens available in 2026, but… (gestures incoherently at all the everything)
